When I was young, I used to read accounts of the mad Emperors of the Roman empire’s decline with a kind of morbid fascination.
Knowing I would never have to deal with living under such a patently useless and unsuitable ruler.
But here we all are, living under the rule of a mad Emperor of a declining American Empire.
A man who, when confronted with the massive crisis of the Iran-Israeli war clearly has absolutely no idea what to do about it.
A man surrounded by individuals who have no moral scruples at all and are simply focused on enriching themselves at the expense of the rest of the world.
They represent the fullest expression of capitalism. And its complete failure as an economic and social system to deal with the crises confronting our world.
But there is another way. There are solutions to all this..
And they are tantalisingly within our reach…
The problem is the total disjunction between these solutions and the flawed, power addicted, confused individuals that make up our governing classes.
So I find myself completely getting what today's reading is telling us:
There is another way. It is very close to us. And it is up to us to choose it.
However hopeless such action may seem; however powerless we may all feel.
We need to take a better path. We need to embark on a new journey.
Well said Jo!
HOPE! We must hang on in there...
