I try to keep hopeful.
I do all I can, in the horrors of the world, not to spread despair or be overwhelmed by rage.
But sometimes I fear I turn away because i simply cannot bear it.
And it is so easy to be overwhelmed by the horror of what is happening in Gaza.
Articles like this really matter because they remind us of the human suffering our governments are causing.
Nadia El-Nakla is married to the First Minister of my country.
Her family were caught up in the Israeli bombardment. Her brother is still trapped in Gaza. Her grandmother has had to be left to die there.
The others have been able to leave, thanks to the intervention of the Turkish authorities. And have been offered temporary refuge there.
But the British state's racist anti-immigration laws mean that our First Minister's wife cannot welcome her own family here and offer them refuge.
That, and the humiliating subservience of Scotland's position in the so-called "United Kingdom".
And the Westminster government, having made no serious attempt to stop the massacre of Palestinian civilians in Gaza and the destruction of their homes and having done nothing to prevent the war crimes committed in this conflict, is now engaged in committing more crimes of its own.
As if we haven't caused enough suffering to the people of Yemen already. Now we make them suffer more.
It is beyond shameful. Beyond disgusting.
Howls of outrage do not do much, I guess, to bring about peace.
But it is far far worse to suppress them.
In my view, EVERYONE in Gaza should be offered refuge in our country, and the whole of the “United Kingdom” should be demanding an immediate ceasefire!
