I was looking around for an image for today’s reading, and I suddenly remembered this rather beautiful teapot that actually contains my late wife’s ashes.
And so in some ways, it’s quite suitable. It’s a very pretty little teapot that she used to enjoy drinking tea out of.
Which is now filled wit human remains.
And yet, of course, in another way, it’s completely wrong because it’s not full of dried bones and corruption, as Jesus says,
But full of very precious relic, Susie’s ashes, that one day, I think, will mingle with mine.
And maybe it’s because of the associations that I couldn’t stop my hand from shaking a little bit.
But maybe it’s appropriate in a strange kind of way because these scroll keepers and separated ones that made Jesus so angry were, at the end of the day, also human beings and perhaps loved and respected ones, too…
