Bad ways and broken hearts
The story goes that crowds of people went to see the prophet, “admitting to their bad hearts and broken ways”.
I’d say “bad ways and broken hearts” because we are on a rjuinous path and it is b reaking our hearts.
And we need to be reminded there is another way.
Suddenly I’m thinking of my INES DE CASTRO.
“There’s a moment at the end when the Ghost of Inés says to the Girl:
They'll lie to you. They’ll say I had to die. That love is not enough. That we should not allow ourselves to dream.
They're wrong. They're very wrong.
They'll tell you that they have to kill. That they cannot avoid committing crimes.
Don't believe them. Don't believe them for a moment.
Remember there's another way.”
“I promise”, the Girl says, “I won’t forget”.
But the play’s been forgotten, and we all forget also.
How to get the message across?
And how to remember….?
We just keep trying…
