In all the years I've been publishing this newsletter, I've always been incredibly grateful for those of you who pay to subscribe to it.
But I've never really known how to reward you.
In the past every time I wrote something I wanted to share it with everyone, and it seemed wrong to restrict it to those who could afford it.
But at the same time, I feel very strongly that writing is a skill, and in this society we ask and we deserve payment for our skills.
So I deserve to be paid for the content I create.
It’s a dilemma I’ve never known how to resolve.
But lately it's occurred to me that perhaps a way to think about it is this:
Those of you who trust me enough to pay for their subscription have really earned the right to be trusted by me and…
And maybe I can repay that trust by publishing content for you that is maybe more private than usual.
Maybe more personal.
Maybe more of an experiment, and experiment involves risk, and risk implies trust.
So that's the plan. To try to record something each week that exposes the cracks and vulnerabilities in the creative process.
And that gives me the chance to reflect on my process, also.
This week, I've been preparing for the first of my four performances in St Marys Cathedral during the Fringe.
