I read yesterday that MAGA thinking equates Christianity with capitalism and free enterprise…
So really I shouldn't feel the slightest bit embarrassed by publishing these daily Bible readings.
Because in a quiet way, these too are a form of resistance.
And I know it's good for me in these crazy times for me to pause at the beginning of every morning and record these readings and then pause again.
Pause to reflect on that part of the story that I've just taken in.
And to offer the same invitation to you.
To pause.
And if the bible words trigger distress in you, then turn the sound off.
Perhaps it’s not the words that matter so much as the silence..
As I think about what I’ve read I have to remind myself – again – to stop thinking about the stories as if in someway they are there to tell us what might or might not have actually happened.
I really don't think that's the point of them.
And if I say they function as myth, that doesn't mean I don't think they're true. I think it means that the truths they offer are deeper than the mundane.
And so the story of the three wise men travelling in darkness looking for some hope of a new beginning it's not just their story, but our story too.
Because we are all in the dark right now, and we are all looking for for a new and different kind of way forward – both in the world around us, and within ourselves.
And just like those wise men in those ancient times we are looking for guidance whatever we can find it.
Because now as then a new and different way of thinking about the world and of organising ourselves within it is struggling to emerge…
