The seeds we scatter

(because we must)
1

reading this passage makes me see that I’m scattering seeds all the time.

we all do.

We’re called to.

Looking back over my life, I can see all the plays I’;ve written, all the performances I’ve done, as scattering seeds into people’s imaginations.

And some have died; and some have born fruit.

And it’s not just about things I’ve written: it’s people I’ve met, things I’ve done…

It’s true of all of us.

And those of us who are trying to build a different, post capitalist world have a particular responsibility here - and a special power we often know nothing about.

There’s also a sense that we shouldn’t blame ourselves if things don’t turn out the way we want.

The sower has no need to reproach herself if her seed doesn’t grow on stony ground.

All she’s asked to do, perhaps, is learn from the experience and try not scatter her seeds on stony ground again…

And also, I think, the good we do is much greater than we imagine….

(Mark 4:1-9)
